Take a step back in time on the St George Heritage Trail. This 45 minute drive will take you back as early as the 1800s, exploring important historical sites, colourful stories and the buildings that have shaped St George. For those with family connections to St George and Surrounds, the trail is a great way to help you retrace your family history.
History enthusiasts can rejoice while on the trail at the St George Heritage Centre. The centre was previously the St George Police Station which was built in 1892 but relocated in 1989. At the museum see the completed blacksmithing shop, printing press and steam engine in working condition. Browse the restored artefacts and historical information. While there, check out the old gaol and courthouse.
The trail also includes, St George’s first brick house, old town bore and many of the town’s hotels.
St George Heritage Tour

On a four hour guided tour, discover the stories and legends of St George. Visit the heritage-listed Anchorage Homestead, one of Balonne Shire’s oldest homes which was built in 1903. Then, learn about local history at the St George Heritage Centre where you can browse through historical artefacts. You’ll finish the day off in the Riversands Vineyards, Queensland’s most western winery. Sit back, relax and enjoy a wine tasting and lunch while you listen to the stories behind their labels.
