Avenue of Heroes is a touching tribute featuring over 140 bottle trees, honoring the fallen soldiers from the First World War. The planting of the bottle trees bottle trees began on the 20 September 1918 with each tree displaying its own remembrance plaque for locals of the Roma District that served.
Hero Avenue was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. Volunteers were called on to “adopt a tree” and the response was overehelming. In fact there still remains a waiting list today. Sponsors lay floral tributes at their bottle trees on ANZAC Day.
